Oklahoma football: Sooners rank 13th in national attendance in 2013

Against some heavy hitters from SEC and Big Ten country, Oklahoma stood its own in college football attendance in 2013.

The Sooners ranked 13th among Division I FBS schools with 508,334 fans, an average of 84,722 per home game. Only Texas had larger attendance numbers in the Big 12 with 593,857 (avg. 98,976).

Both OU and Texas were one of only four schools in the top 13 that played only six home games last season. The top three schools on the list – Michigan, Ohio State and Alabama – each played seven home games and have larger capacity stadiums.

Michigan led the way with an average of 111,592. Texas was fourth, followed by Penn State, Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, Nebraska and Florida to round out the top 10. Texas A&M and Auburn were 11th and 12th, and South Carolina 14th, giving the Southeastern Conference eight schools in the top 15.

Nebraska, Texas A&M and Auburn each played eight home games.

The NCAA list compiled the top 30 schools in terms of attendance.
