Joe Mixon suspended one yearPosted: August 18, 2014
NORMAN – Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon, arraigned on a misdemeanor charge in court early Monday afternoon, was suspended from the football team by the university for this season, according to an OU statement released two hours after Mixon’s appearance.Athletic director Joe Castiglione and coach Bob Stoops were both quoted in the statement as saying: “As the university has demonstrated in the past, we are committed to winning the right way. As an example to others, OU sets the highest possible standards for its student-athletes, coaches and staff.”
The statement indicated that Castiglione and Stoops recommended to OU president David Boren that Mixon, a five-star freshman charged with a misdemeanor act of gross injury stemming from a July 25 incident at a Norman restaurant, be suspended from all team activities during the season, and have his name removed from the Sooners’ roster.
Mixon will be allowed to remain a student on campus, according to the release, “with appropriate conditions.”
