“NORMAN – Oklahoma safety Hatari Byrd was cited early Jan. 24 in Norman on complaints of possession of drug paraphernalia by a minor and possession of alcohol by a minor.

According to incident report, police observed the 20-year-old Byrd driving left of the center line and right of lane markers and speeding on East Lindsey just past 2 a.m. Jan. 24. The officer who pulled Byrd over discovered a small plastic bag of marijuana in the driver seat and a bottle of Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey in the passenger floorboard.

According to the report, there was a β€œ1” written on the baggie. When the officer asked Byrd about it, Byrd said it meant β€œone gram.”
The officer cited Byrd for the two misdemeanor offenses and released him from the scene.

Byrd played in all 13 OU games last fall. He made 17 tackles, broke up three passes and forced a fumble. He is expected to contend for a starting position at safety next season.”
